01Who we are

This is the website of Mr Farhan Syed, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (GMC number 7179013). Mr Syed is the controller of the personal information collected through this website. That means he decides how it is used and is responsible for looking after it.

You can contact us about anything in this notice:

This notice covers this website only. If you become a patient, your clinical records are also held by the hospital where you are seen (The Meriden Hospital or University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire), and each hospital publishes its own privacy notice.

02Information we collect

When you email or phone us, we collect whatever information you choose to give us.

What you tell us can reveal information about your health. The law treats health information as special category data, and we handle it with particular care. Please share only what you need to for us to respond — we will ask for anything else we need when we speak to you.

When you browse the site, the service that hosts it processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type, which it needs to deliver pages to you and keep the site secure. We do not use this information to identify you.

03How we use it

We use your information to respond to your enquiry and, if you would like to go ahead, to arrange your appointment. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

Our lawful bases under UK data protection law are:

  • taking the steps you have asked us to take before providing your care (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)), and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact the practice (Article 6(1)(f));
  • for health information, the provision of health care by, or under the responsibility of, a registered health professional (UK GDPR Article 9(2)(h), and Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act 2018).

04Who we share it with

Your enquiry is seen by Mr Syed and his secretary. We never sell your information, and we only share it:

  • with the hospital where you will be seen, when we arrange an appointment for you;
  • with the service providers that run this website and our email on our behalf — our web host and our email provider, Google Workspace. They act only on our instructions;
  • where the law requires us to.

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the safeguards UK law requires, such as adequacy regulations or approved contract terms.

05Cookies and embedded content

This website does not set any cookies of its own, and it does not use analytics or advertising trackers. Its fonts are served from this website rather than from a third party.

Some pages include content provided by other companies:

  • patient reviews, shown through a widget from Doctify;
  • maps of our practice locations, from Google Maps.

When a page with this content loads, those companies may receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies. Links to other websites — including Circle Health, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the National Joint Registry, Google Scholar, LinkedIn and X — are covered by those websites’ own privacy policies.

06How long we keep it

We keep enquiries only for as long as we need them to deal with your request and any follow-up, after which they are deleted. If you become a patient, information about your care is kept for the periods required for medical records.

07Keeping it safe

This website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.

08Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information, or to restrict how we use it;
  • object to our using your information;
  • ask us to transfer information you gave us to another organisation.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office:
